Stafford's Work

What Open AI Chat GPT says about development of VSM for organizations in 2023.

Tonight on a whim I was playing with the Open AI app Chat GPT and asked this question:

How could the Viable Systems Model by Stafford Beer be developed to be more relevant to organizations in 2023?  I find the 6 answers a possible agenda for us to all consider even though they might be applied to any organization however structured, modeled or organized.

And the response were: :
There are several ways that the Viable Systems Model (VSM) could be developed to be more relevant to organizations in 2023:

  1. Incorporation of new technologies: VSM could be updated to include the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain, which are becoming increasingly prevalent in organizations.
  2. Adaptation to new organizational structures: As organizations are becoming more decentralized and flat, VSM could be adapted to better reflect these new structures and the roles and responsibilities of employees within them.
  3.  Greater focus on sustainability and social responsibility: VSM could be updated to place a greater emphasis on sustainability and social responsibility, as these are becoming increasingly important topics for organizations in 2023.
  4. Incorporation of more data and analytics: VSM could be developed to include more data and analytics in order to better inform decision making and improve performance.
  5. Incorporation of behavioral psychology: VSM could be developed to include more insights from behavioral psychology in order to better understand the behaviors and motivations of employees and how they impact organizational performance.
  6. Incorporation of remote and virtual working models: VSM could be adapted to better reflect the new ways of working that have emerged as a result of the pandemics, such as remote and virtual working.
