Dear ,
Mid-June update on Metaphorum 2025 Conference
Dear Members
Our 2025 Conference is just over two weeks away, and we are looking forward to meeting all the registered participants in Manchester.
This Friday (20th June) is the final date for submitting abstracts, and the deadline to inform the caterers of the numbers of participants. If you register after Friday, we won't be able to guarantee food and drink.
We have now produced a first draft schedule - you can see it at the conference’s website at Sched- at https://metaphorum2025.sched.com/. We will be adjusting it after we receive the final abstracts during this week.
It is all looking very exciting, with a very nice mixture of presentations, workshops, student led sessions (for the VSM Master class), a Team Syntegrity Taster, and highly participative group dynamics (problem jostle and final workshop). All the themes of the conference are now nicely covered. The proposed sessions cover:
· challenges and opportunities that Artificial Intelligence brings to organisations, to further develop and apply cybernetic and systems tools
· ways to progress cybernetic and systems theories and methodologies to improve human well-being, sustainability and resilience
· innovations in VSM and TS theory and practice
Some of workshops are:
· A Brazilian VSM diagnosis of the water-food-energy nexus in an eco-region just south of the Amazon and its relevance to other water systems.
· Developing Stafford Beer’s Environments for Decision concept and discussing the application of artificial intelligence to make it work.
· Designing for Regeneration: Activating Collaborative Intelligence in Living Systems.
Other speakers will be discussing themes like:
· Eudemony as a measure driving decision-making within an operations room.
· Integrating Resilience and Human Values for systemic viability
· A paradigm-changing management research agenda for bottom-up, stakeholder-governed organisations.
These are just a few examples of the topics being discussed. Please check the program for the full list.
Next week, following the deadline for abstracts, we will announce the final schedule. You can download the Sched application in your phone, and it will allow you to plan your own conference schedule, by choosing between all the talks and workshops.
We have now agreed with the International Society of Systems Science to publish jointly a special issue in Systems Research and Behavioural Sciences, with the best papers from their and our annual conference. The theme of invited papers will be 'Advancing Together: Systemic Collaboration for Intelligence, Agency, and Resilience.'
Deadline for first draft papers will be October 2025.
Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks in Manchester!
The conference team.
